Adding A Fitness Program Into Our Routine
Ceanne here and I wanted to talk about fitness today for a couple of minutes. Fitness is so important in our lives, not only when we want to lose weight and get in better shape, but it’s really important to work our heart so that we can have a strong heart and live a better life, a longer life, and a healthier life.
I walked into the YMCA back in August really out of shape and for some reason they thought I could teach classes.
It’s May now so I’ve been pretty much working out almost daily since then and I still haven’t reached my ideal weight.
It’s a constant journey, but I had to start somewhere.
When I first started, I was exercising two hours a day, three or four times a week; it was crazy. I was so tired.
I’d do a two-hour workout and I’d come home and go to bed. Since then I’m not working out that craziness; I’m working out for my goals, but I had to start somewhere.
Yes, it was, it was hard; it was very hard. It was exhausting!

Yes, some days while leading water aerobics I would play it lead the class, and do all the hand singles, so much fun, and that is what exercise needs to be is some type 0f fun, so you want to keep showing up.
We have a lot of seniors at the YMCA.
People that have arthritis – they have every excuse in the book, but they show up every day.
I teach a class; it’s called Stride, Strength and Stretch.
We are jogging and walking for half an hour and then we do about 15 minutes of stretching and about 15 minutes of resistance training, strength training.
And they show up!
There’s this one lady that comes in and she is pretty overweight and half the time she just sits in the chair because that’s all she can do. She’s really out of shape, but she shows up for almost every class.
- Get up and walk and jog.
- Get up and jump.
- She shows up and does a little bit each time.So make a decision to show up in your life and do something that’s for your good and for your health that’s like a Christmas present to yourself every day.Even if it’s getting up, taking a walk with your dog around the block, or walking out to your mailbox instead of driving to your mailbox. If you can walk and if you are in decent shape get up and exercise.
- Walk for a minute and then jog for the next minute.
- Two minutes of exercise or jogging to one minute of walking.Build that up.
- Do some jumping jacks.
I teach seniors who can hardly walk so we exercise in the chair. It’s a matter of taking a ball like this, putting it between your legs and squeezing.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 11, and 12.
We do a couple of sets of that.
Bring that ball up over your head, 12 times over your head both arms. Take it to the side and take it to the other side with both arms. Down to your knee, reach down to your knee.
We do this stretching, we use that ball and we do a lot of sitting.
They sit in the chair with their weights and they do bicep curls, two sets 12 each bicep curls. Bring those weights over your head.
There’s just no excuse, whether you can walk or not. If you can sit on your butt you can exercise. 🙂
I’m sorry; I’m not judging or anything, but it’s so important exercising. Anything that you can do to move your body is exercising, e.g. dancing.
This month I’m starting a new program. I’m doing a dance program because I love to dance. I’ve been doing resistance training and just doing a lot of fun things with the 21-Day Fix.
Now I’m doing Piyo and I love to dance. It’s just something that’s going to be fun with my body for the next month.
Do Something You Love
- If you love to play volleyball, play volleyball.
If you love to golf, go golfing but walk. Walk around your neighborhood or walk your dog.
My dog is fat. He needs to go on a diet and he would probably benefit if I took him out walking every day.
Just start moving because your body will really love you for it. It’s hard, but you’ve just got to keep going; just do it.
I love you girls and I’m so excited that you’re here. I’m so excited that you want to move forward in your health and your fitness.
It takes both; it takes eating right – they say abs happen in the kitchen. Yes, we can diet and diet, but we need to exercise.
About 15 years ago I lost a lot of weight. I didn’t exercise; I lost all the weight I could, but I was still flabby because I needed to be fit and toned and do some exercise.
You can exercise and exercise and not lose the weight that you need to lose because you’re not eating right.
It’s an equal balance of eating right and exercising and moving your bodies. That’s how we were created; to move our bodies and to eat right.
