Today, I wanted to talk about one of the most popular questions that I’m asked all the time being a health and fitness coach, how to create an exercise habit.
How Do You Create An Exercise Habit?
It took me years to create an exercise habit and what it boiled down to, from somebody that didn’t like to exercise and always had an excuse of why not to exercise.
- I don’t have time to exercise.
- I would rather do such-and-such rather than exercise.
- I will start tomorrow.
To Create An Exercise Habit
You Have To Make A Decision
I made a decision that my health was important
I Made A Date With Myself To Improve My Life
I looked at my time schedule and figured out a time I could dedicate to myself and to my health to improve my life.
- This habit that I’m creating is creating a better life for myself and lengthening my life. Exercise is important and it was important to me even though I didn’t think so.
21 Days to Create An Exercise Habit
I know that it takes 21 days to create a habit, so I chose 09:00 o’clock in the morning to exercise.
I told myself every single morning at nine o’clock, no matter what was going on, unless it’s a life-or-death situation I am showing up to exercise, whatever that meant.
Whether that meant dancing, doing the 21-Day Fix, going to the gym and working out or teaching a class or whatever, I was going to exercise.
I exercised almost every day for a year, and I created an exercise habit that was working for me, until I tore for my Achilles tendon.
No More Excuses To Keep My Morning Appointment With Myself
I tore my tendon in July and now it’s November. I have not been exercising for almost 4 months, except for the exercises my physical therepist gave me.
Healed & Restored
Oh, did I mention that God healed my tear during a prayer? One night I prayed with one of my favorite speakers, and God healed me. Many people will never be the same after a achilles tear, or it can take months and months, or years to heal. (Thank you Lord!) I am ready to start working on creating my exercise habit again.
I no longer have that excuse because I’m pretty much healed. I have been exercising a little bit and slowly working myself into an exercise program but now it’s time to go back to this drawing board and say;
“Ceanne, at 9:00 o’clock in the morning every morning, it’s time to exercise.”
- It doesn’t matter what is going on.
- It doesn’t matter who calls me.
- It doesn’t matter what show is on.
- It doesn’t matter what meeting I have.
I am important and it’s important for my health and for my life to make myself a priority. That’s how I have created an exercise habit.
I love you gals and you can apply this mindset to everything you do. Anything that’s important to you whether it be exercise, eating better, whatever you want to do, just show up.
Just decide, I want to exercise at 6: 00 o’clock and do it. Just show up for your life, for your success, and do it.
