Creating good habits at times means giving up bad habits and that is why it is not an easy task. But the good news is once a habit is formed it becomes a natural part of our lives that is just as hard to break as a bad habit. That is why it is important to form habits that have a positive impact in our lives.
The Oxford Dictionary defines a habit as ‘a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up’.
Wikipedia defines a habit as ‘a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously’.
It takes a minimum of 21 days to form a habit.
This means 21 consecutive days of making an effort and forcing yourself to repeat the same action until it becomes a habit. As Aristotle so aptly put it, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
Creating Positive Habits
Positive habits that one can form include praying on a daily basis, eating healthy, exercising regularly, reading, meditating etc.
The list is endless. Good habits lie behind the achievement of goals because it takes self-discipline and consistency to reach a set goal. But it is important to note that our goals are not our habits. Habits are the fuel that keeps us going even when we want to give up on our goals.

When we have good habits we tend to be more productive and effective in our lives. A good character is a direct result of good habits. We set the foundation of our lives with the habits that we form so it is important to make sure that we form good and positive habits. Habits also help to reduce or even completely eliminate time wastage as they bring about efficiency. Once a habit is formed you do not need to spend a lot of time psyching yourself to do it; you just do it without giving it much thought.

In addition, healthy habits improve your energy levels and boost your longevity.
